• Lisenia Rivera has been serving conchas and coffee at La Mejor for nearly 20 years

There aren't enough local news outlets these days to get these nice slice-of-life articles that I really appreciate. This shop is great, and open pretty late. Conveniently located right next to 24th Street BART.

More and more customers arrive, and Rivera starts their orders as soon as she recognizes them. A man walks in drunkenly, and Rivera immediately pours him a cup of coffee. “Por borracho,” says Rivera, handing him the cup. For being drunk.

Before Rivera ever worked at La Mejor, she was a regular customer there. The bakery was her usual spot for pan dulce and coffee on her way to BART for her job at a taqueria near downtown.

Police this year arrived at the first gathering on Kissling Street at about 11 p.m. to disperse the crowd, and arrested two participants. The party then re-formed a few blocks over and, after issuing dispersal orders a second time, police arrested another 18 people. Several party attendees have said that they did not hear the dispersal orders. Video footage appears to show the police issuing the orders around the corner from the primary epicenter of the party.

Throughout both locations, anti-police graffiti was observed spray-painted on walls

• US government targets Cop City protester over phone operating system

Agent Findley and several others repeatedly asked Tunick to open his phone during the interrogation, telling him they would seize it if he did not. When he finally provided a passcode, “the screen went blank, flashed several times and the phone appeared to restart”, according to the motion.

As shitty as this whole situation is. I hope that everyone in the room for the use of the duress code enjoyed the moment. An opsec geeks wet dream. Almost no one will ever need to use that feature. They may dream of the day they can outwit their captor with this duress code, but to actually have a moment to use such a feature... it's like a scene out of Death Note. Must have truly been a fun day for all involved.

I will continue to watch closely to see how this plays out in court.. it seems absurd to charge them with anything, especially when knowing they could have also just wiped the phone before flying and restored it afterwards.

Reading One Piece, currently on Chapter 130. I have a long way to go, and they're always releasing more!

Books

I will be on vacation this week, and so may take some time to read a book. I've been thinking of re-reading the Millenium series books by Steig Larsson. It's been a long time since I read them, but I remember enjoying the read.

I'm looking for recommendations for books about Mexico City, if anyone has any post in the (new) comment area below :)
